"Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there have you been, and there shall you long to return."
Leonardo da Vinci
'Elevated Vision' is dedicated to the sharing of my personal journey as a pilot who lives and flies in Greece. Being a lifelong martial artist and dedicated aviator, my journey has enabled me to combine these two passions, the former having been an inner quest to discover and tread 'Gestumei no Michi', the 'moonlit path' of inner movement, manifesting in its external counterpart; the latter being a celebration of literal freedom from the shackles of an earthbound existence. Flight is the manifestation of the human dream of aeons to soar in the heavens, coveted as the privilege of the divine. The ability to exist in that place between the Earth and the stars, in that nebulous and ever-changing gaseous medium, remained no more than a dream to countless generations of humans who walked the earth prior to the discovery of powered flight. As human beings gazed skyward in awe, the aerial domain had hitherto remained accessible only to ancient gods, to angels and to the myriad of winged creatures that inhabited our planet. To attach oneself to an aircraft, to feel it as an extension of self, and to take to the skies is indeed the manifestation of that human dream to finally become unstuck from the Earth, to soar in the azure firmament, meandering amongst the clouds! For me, this journey has been catalytic in nurturing an inner change of paradigm that the fraternity of aviators recognises so well. This inexpressible metamorphosis is stamped into the very essence of our being. Earthen and aerial paths intertwine to forge a continual and 'elevated' evolution of self.
'Elevated Vision' represents an endeavour to share thoughts and images through the principal medium of aerial photography, capturing the spectacular vistas of Hellas, our 'Land of Light', (and sometimes venturing further afar to fly in other skies). "Elevated Vision' celebrates this invitation into the continued exploration of one's inner movements, afforded through the eyes of that avian creature, the aviator, whose soul is galvanised by the sublimity of their adopted home. For the aviator comprehends the indelible impression that marks the human soul once feet tread once more on terra firma. The yearning to be airborne once more leaves its mingled aftertaste of bittersweet joy and sadness. The exhilaration of a flight and deep sense of accomplishment following a safe return to Earth from our adopted skies at first elates the aviator; then, as this inner warmth quietly dissipates, it reveals a melancholy tug of longing as eyes seek out the skies once more. A longing to fly.
